Marks Glass and Concrete
ABOUT US
It began when my friend Annie showed me how to mortar glass on shower board to make trivets for our fourth graders as a class project. My kids are one year apart and I found myself making them again the next year. It sparked something within me and suddenly it felt like my life exploded with ideas of things to make. I had experience pouring concrete as a child on a farm with a stepfather. I started exploring and experimenting with concrete and found GFRC which is Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete. I started making mosaic planters and then tiled boxes. GFRC tends to be stronger and lighter than regular concrete and I shaped it into different forms such as turtles and wood looking benches by learning to make rubber molds.

I have always enjoyed glass and started taking classes at the Blue Dolphin in San Diego. The staff at the Blue Dolphin has been wonderful sharing their knowledge and helping me to understand stained, glass and fused glass.
I enjoy the contrast of concrete and glass or stone and glass. I started making fused glass flowers and attaching them to copper stems that are then anchored in natural stone. I coat the bottom of the stones with rubber to not scratch or slide or I add the flowers to flower pots that I fill with concrete to give them a hefty base.
